Save The Bay’s Westerly Seal Tour and Nature Cruises celebrate fall on the Pawcatuck River

WESTERLY, R.I. – September 27, 2022 – The inaugural Save The Bay Seal Tour and Nature Cruise of the 2022 season will depart from Viking Marina in Westerly, R.I. on Saturday, Oct. 8 at 1 p.m. This 90-minute tour cruises down the Pawcatuck River into Little Narragansett Bay, giving passengers the opportunity to enjoy the fall landscape from the deck of the m/v Elizabeth Morris. While onboard, guests have the opportunity to spot a variety of wildlife while learning about the local habitat and history from their Save The Bay captain and educator. Westerly tours will be held every Saturday through Nov. 19.

“We always love being able to connect our guests with the beauty of the Pawcatuck River in autumn,” said Save The Bay Director of Education Bridget Prescott. “Between the wonderful scenery, the crisp air, and the chance to catch sight of great blue herons, red-tailed hawks, ospreys and harbor seals, these tours are a truly invigorating way to usher in the cooler months.”

For over 15 years, Save The Bay has offered Seal Tours and Nature Cruises in Westerly during the region’s cooler months when harbor seals migrate south into local waters following their food supply. Save The Bay’s education vessels allow guests to observe winter seals and other wildlife in their natural habitat, all while benefiting the nonprofit’s mission to protect and improve Narragansett Bay.

Tickets for Save The Bay’s Seal Tours and Nature Cruises are: $22 per adult; $17 for Save The Bay members, seniors, and children ages 3-12; and children under 3 years of age are free. While Westerly tours begin on Oct. 8, Save The Bay’s one- and two-hour Seal Tours out of Bowen’s Ferry Landing in Newport will begin Nov. 27. Tour schedules, tickets, gift certificates and more information are available by calling 401-203-SEAL(7325) or visiting savebay.org/seals.
