Exploration Center & Aquarium

Winter Hours: 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Friday-Sunday and Dec. 26-30

Whether you're a local or just visiting the Newport area, our beachfront Exploration Center & Aquarium is the perfect family destination any time of year!

Our interactive marine science center is home to more than 40 species from Narragansett Bay, often including rare lobsters, crabs, seahorses, sea robins, terrapins and more. Three touch tanks allow you to get up close and
personal with little skates, urchins, spider crabs, sea stars, dogfish sharks and more - all from local waters. And, with Newport's only ocean-facing beach just outside our front door, you can continue the beachcombing experience after your visit. The Exploration Center and Aquarium is supported, in part, by Corvias Solutions.

December Theme - "Our Bay, Our Future" highlights local conservation efforts

Children with educators at the activity tableVisitors to the aquarium this month can enjoy an interactive story hour featuring “All the Way to the Ocean,” by Joel Harper, about how trash can travel from humans on land all the way to the ocean. A scavenger hunt sends guests searching the aquarium for some of the trash items most commonly found on beaches during Rhode Island’s International Coastal Cleanup. And a craft activity has kids working to create something beautiful with recycled materials. The Center will also display a number of informational posters about various habitat restoration and conservation efforts by Save The Bay.
