The Bay Center - Providence, RI

The Bay Center is an award-winning building with a mission. It provides classrooms for our Explore The Bay educational programs, Save The Bay's administrative offices, and community meeting space. The 15,042 sq. ft. building is located on a 6.07-acre site donated to Save The Bay by Johnson & Wales University. The grounds also house our boathouse with an adjacent fixed pier and dock.

Building is open 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. weekdays.
Our grounds are open to the public daily from dawn to dusk.

Exploration Center & Aquarium - Newport, RI

Our interactive marine science center is home to more than 140 species from Narragansett Bay. Children can get face-to-fin with lobsters, crabs, jellies, and fish from our local waterways. With Newport's only ocean-facing beach just outside our front door, you can continue the beachcombing experience after your visit.

From Points North or South of Providence

Take I-95 to Exit 18 (Thurbers Avenue). Follow signs to Allens Avenue and turn right at the bottom of the hill, southbound onto Allens Ave. Follow Allens 1.1 miles (five traffic lights) to Harborside Blvd. You will see the large Johnson & Wales University marquees on your left. Turn LEFT onto Harborside, driving through the campus toward the water. At the end of the road, you will make a right onto Save The Bay Drive, which leads to our building.

From downtown Newport:

From the waterfront at America's Cup Ave., take Memorial Blvd. up the hill toward the mansions, continuing through the intersection at Bellevue Ave. Proceed about 1.5 miles. Easton's Beach is the first beach on the right as you reach the bottom of the hill. Take the second entrance for Exploration Center parking.

From North, VIA ROUTE 24:

Take Route 24 south. Follow exits and signs carefully toward Newport. Take the route 138 south/Middletown/Newport exit. Bear left onto 138A. Follow signs to "Newport Beaches." The first beach on the left is Easton's Beach (locally known as First Beach). The Save The Bay Exploration Center is in the central rotunda. Take the first cut-through to the other side of the highway for Exploration Center parking ONLY. Take the second cut-through for beach parking.

From North, via I-95:

Take any exit from Providence to I-95 south. Take exit 9 (a left lane exit) to Route 4 south. Route 4 will turn into Route 1 south. Take exit for Jamestown and Newport Bridges/Route 138 east. ($5 toll for Newport Bridge), take "Scenic Newport" exit. Go through first set of lights and make a right at second set of lights. Go through seven sets of lights, then at the Post Office, continue (a slight left) onto Memorial Boulevard. Go over the hill, and the Save The Bay Exploration Center will be in the central rotunda on your right. Take the second entrance for Exploration Center parking ONLY. Take the first entrance for beach parking.

From South, VIA I-95:

Take I-95 north to the exit for Route 138 east. Continue on Route 138 east over the Jamestown and Newport Bridges ($5 toll). After crossing the bridges, take "Scenic Newport" exit. From there, follow directions from NORTH VIA I-95.

From West, VIA ROUTE 138:

Take Route 138 east (it will join Route 1 north for a brief time in RI). Continue on Route 138 east over the Jamestown and Newport Bridges ($5 toll). After crossing the bridges, take "Scenic Newport" exit. From there, follow directions from NORTH VIA I-95.

From points North, VIA I-95:

Take I-95 South towards New York. Continue through Rhode Island and into Connecticut. Take EXIT 92 toward CT-2 / PAWCATUCK / NO. STONINGTON. At the bottom of the offramp, take a left onto CT-49 (Pendleton Hill Road). Follow CT-49 until it ends and take a left at the stoplight (onto CT-2: Liberty Street) Follow CT-2 until it ends. You will be at the intersection of West Broad Street. Take a left onto West Broad (crossing under the Amtrak bridge – note: dangerous intersection). Follow the road and cross a bridge over the PawcatuckRiver (you will be back in Rhode Island). Our office is on the left hand side, directly after the bridge (the old McCormick building). We are on the ground floor.

From points North, VIA ROUTE 1:

Take Route 1 south through SouthCounty. Once in Westerly, continue through thirteen (13) stoplights. At the 14th stoplight, turn LEFT onto GRANITE ST / US-1 and follow down the hill. At the bottom of the hill, at the light, take a left. Follow the road around as it turns to the right (Broad Street) into downtown Westerly. Continue straight (past the library on your right and shops on both sides). Our building is on the right side, just before you cross over the bridge (the old McCormick building). We are on the ground floor.


Parking is available on the street. Note there is a two-hour limit for parking (where posted).
