See the 2010 GISC girls in action on YouTube as they BUILD ocean "drifters" to track and measure currents in upper Narragansett Bay and then DEPLOY AND CHASE the devices. Also, see photos from the two-day effort on Facebook.

This camp is aimed at middle school girls from urban areas who are interested in science and want to study Narragansett Bay. Middle school is often a time when girls lose interest in science, leading to fewer girls considering the sciences later in life. We hope that by showing them science can be fun and interesting, they will display a greater interest in science in high school and throughout their lives. Girls in Science Camp exposes girls to science in a fun, hands-on, supportive environment surrounded by great female role models.

GIS role models include Save The Bay staff members and female adult guest speakers including scientists, doctors, habitat specialists, urban planners, marine lawyers and veterinarians.
