Help Restore Scallops in Narragansett Bay

Come and help Save The Bay restore this charismatic species in Point Judith Pond! Check out this video on the project. Volunteers are needed to help by coming out to deploy scallops and scallop cages, and to do shoreline monitoring counting baby scallops. See event descriptions below. Please note that meeting locations and times are subject to change based on weather and tides.

SCALLOP LINE AND SPAT COLLECTION

What: Volunteers will count baby scallops on mesh bags on shore.

When/Where: Projects are currently set for the DEM Jerusalem Site, located at approx. 1282 Succotash Rd. in Wakefield, and at Ninigret Park at Park Lane in Charlestown pending final approval by the State. Volunteers will be notified of any site, time and date changes. Times and dates are below. The work can last from an hour to four hours, depending on the number of spat. Volunteers should be available for at least two hours.

NOTE: Space is limited for these projects for 4-6 volunteers per restoration day.

Requirements: Must be at least 10 years of age or older to participate. Volunteers under 16 MUST be accompanied by an adult, and volunteers under 18 must have their own transportation (no drop-offs). Volunteers must be comfortable getting wet or being chilly if the weather is cool. Dress for the weather in clothes you don't mind getting dirty, and wear sturdy, closed-toed shoes.
